Cottage Addition Moved from Site

This week saw the addition having the steel beams and wheels put under it so it could be moved off site. The actual move took place on Thursday c/w two OPP cruisers for escort down the road. It was a tight squeeze getting out the driveway and under the wires but once on the road, there were no problems.

They had to turn north going out the driveway because of the hydro pole. They drove up to Camp Line to turn around and then I saw them go past again, ten minutes later, heading to Young's Point.

Log Cabin

This past few weeks has seen the concrete block and sill plates installed and the log cabin lowered onto the new foundation.

End of Day

Here is what it looks like at it's new location.

The Lift and Move

Today Jim Tedford and his two assistants slid two long steel beams in through the windows and cross beams from the front to the rear. They lifted the cabin with the steel beams under the microlam beams that were attached to the logs.

The steel was all supported on cribs with the beams on steel rollers. Then the building was rolled off the old foundation and onto the new one in a series of moves with the crib work being shifted metre by metre until by the end of the day they were lined up in the new location.

The building will be up in the air for the next week while we build up the area between the slab and the bottom of the logs so the building can be lowered onto it's new base.

Moving the Cabin

Monday the crew arrived and they attached vertical microlam (thick plywood) to the exterior to hold the logs together and keep them from sagging or separating during the lift and move.

On the interior they attached very deep microlam beams all around about half way up the walls. These are what the steel beams would lift and thus raise the log cabin off the old foundation. The lift and move in the next posting.
