Painting and Stair

The pickets for the railing were installed after Heather finished the staining and varathane.

Heather has also been busy painting all of the main floor.

She started with the office, then the bedroom, hall, living, dining and laundry areas.

She hasn't needed the gym lately because of the exercise 10 ft ceilings give you, going up and down ladders.

Kitchen installed

Cabinets were installed c/w doors and drawers. Hardware and trim to come when countertop and appliances installed.

Kitchen Cabinets

The kitchen arrived the week the hardwood was being completed. Heather had her friend Chaya visiting and she was wonderful at helping with cabinet assembly.

Chaya also helped Heather with the staining of the oak railing and stairs.

Hardwood

Murray and I worked on the hardwood in the living, dining & kitchen so I could continue myself by finishing the hall, office and bedroom.

While we were busy doing that, Steve and Ian were getting most of the drywall completed in the basement so I could finish that area later.

Drywall

The main floor has been drywalled and the taping started this week. Next week we will be painting. In the basement, Murray, his son Ian and Steve, have finished all partitions and outside wall framing and sound attenuation. The electrical rough-in is done, and insulation will be starting on perimeter walls prior to drywall installation.

Photos are the main floor bedroom, living room, kitchen and dining looking through to the screen porch and the last is from the entrance looking through the living room to the lake. The opening in the hall to living room wall is for our stained glass window from Conger St.

Septic System and Grading

December saw the septic system installed and the grading raised as well as the new driveway installed. This changed the look of the site and brought the scale of the house and detached garage down. In the spring the grades will be topped off as the final landscaping is completed.

You will notice the snow on the roof as winter arrived and interrupted all those other outdoor jobs such as painting trim and stone veneer on the lower portions of some walls and the base of the verandah posts. You will just have to visualize the "canyon clay" colour trim and the "Bucks County Country Ledgerock" stone facing on the post bases and where the white tyvek is exposed. Spring will arrive soon enough for these to be completed.

The Outside Nearly Completed

The siding is now complete on the house and the garage is looking more finished with the overhead doors installed and the siding nearly complete. Trim on the road side verandah and garage will be the same taupe colour of the windows and eaves. The road side verandah now has the diagonal frames installed and the pine trim and paint will finish it off. Stonework may have to wait until spring unless we get several warm days next week. It is being installed on the lower portions of the garage, basement walkout and house walls where the white Tyvek air barrier is visible presently.

The snow is apparently melting tomorrow with a high around 8 degrees. Heather and I will be moving the storage from the blue container into the garage this weekend now that the garage is secured. Then we can clear the yard of the container and proceed with the new driveway and grading.

Work inside is proceeding with the insulation complete for the main floor, window jams being installed and drywall to proceed later next week.

The shoreline view from the lake has the house hiding in the trees. We want it to blend in to the surroundings so it is not visible from the lake when the leaves are on the trees.
